Spotted on Facebook ~ This is ‘Telstar’, James Laga‘s Shoebox Ford-based original custom build, a project that he’s been working on-and-off for roughly 12 years.
James started with a shoebox Ford and sectioned it 4 inches, then grafted on Studebaker fender sections.
James made the spinners from ’53 Cadillac hub caps and some 1950s accessory spinners.
A ’53 Studebaker hood section was used because the stock shoebox Ford hood was, for his liking, too flat across the front.
James reshaped the door openings and crafted the handmade fins.
The rear deck area is made from the front-end of a Volkswagen Karmann Ghia.
James does not have and English wheel or other fancy metal shaping tools, so he cut compound curves from donor cars and pieced them together to achieve the shape he was after.
James has also built a scale model of Telstar…
We’ll keep our eyes on this project. Stay tuned…
