Rust converters are chemical solutions or primers that can be applied directly to steel, iron or iron alloy surfaces to convert iron oxides (rust) into a protective chemical barrier.
These compounds interact with iron oxides, especially iron(III) oxide, converting them into an adherent black layer that is more resistant to moisture and protects the surface from further corrosion.
They are sometimes referred to as “rust remover” or “rust killer”.
Rust converter products tested in this video, in no particular order:
- POR-15 Rust Preventative Coating
- Eastwood Rust Encapsulator
- Rust-Oleum Rust Reformer
- Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch 2X
- Permatex Rust Treatment
- VHT Rust Convertor
- Plastikote Rust Converter
- Gempler’s Fast Rust Converter
- Rust Kutter Rust Converter
Project Farm tests each rust converter product for UV resistance, scratch and chip resistance, adhesive strength, and rust resistance.
Project Farm purchased each of the products tested to ensure fair and unbiased test results.
