The Holden Bros Spin a Mustero GT-350 into Power Stroked RanchTang

1966 Mustang Mustero

Stephen and Willie, the Holden Bros, have partnered with Matt from Demolition Ranch to take a sketchy Mustang/GT-350 Mustero conversion and transform it into the capable Power Stroked RanchTang!

The brothers will be preparing a 6-liter Power Stroke diesel bolted to a 4R100 computer-controlled 4-speed automatic transmission with 1,000 lb-ft capacity from the factory for the swap.

RanchTang Motor Swap and Build ~ Part 1

1966 Ford Mustang V8 289 vs 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel

The brothers work to empty out and make some room in the Mustero pull out the 289 to see what it’s going to take to fit the monster 6.0 L PowerStroke diesel in what sure looks like a small engine compartment…

RanchTang Motor Swap and Build ~ Part 2

The brothers will be preparing a 6-liter Power Stroke diesel bolted to a 4R100 computer-controlled 4-speed automatic transmission with 1,000 lb-ft capacity from the factory and generally mated to the 7.3 liter Power Stroke — this slushbox should be plenty ready. The cutting commences and the work gets done…

RanchTang Motor Swap and Build ~ Part 3

Parts start to arrive and Stephen and Willie fabricate the mounts needed to install the motor and transmission to this old pony. They also work through mounting cantilever pedals, bringing the master cylinder to the other side of the firewall for clearance.

Part 4 ~ RanchTang doing it nice cause we do it twice!

The brothers rip out what they had and start over. The transmission cross-member gets cut out, the floors get cut out, and they find lots of rusted trash, but also an opportunity to get it right…

Part 5 ~ RanchTang Back Half

Willie and Stephen find a lot more rust and realize the best thing to do is cut it all out and build, then proceed to fabricate the whole back half of the car…

Part 6 ~ RanchTang is Taking Shape

The brothers work to complete the transmission tunnel and floorboards, craft a removable radiator core support, and modify and relocate some engine accouterments to aid in hood fitment…

Part 7 ~ Start-Up!

Willie and Stephen are getting close time-wise, and they bust a move on the floors and transmission tunnel, get the seats mounted, run the fuel lines, mount the radiator and intercooler, battery, fuel cell, and AirDog air/fuel separator. Finally, they flash the ECM and fire the beast up for the first time…
