DeBoss Garage Blew Up My Firebird!

Back in July, Rich and Aaron from DeBoss Garage got the bright idea to buy a clean OBS Ford F350 in California and drive it clear through the Rust Belt and back to their home in Ontario, Canada.

They made a bunch of stops along the way to check out builds, meet fans, and of course, to fix their newly purchased truck.

At the suggestion from Kevin from Junkyard Digs, they stopped at a yard to check out some crusty classics in Eastern Iowa — right in Jon the Mad Scientist Garage‘s backyard.

Jon met up with the road-worn Canucks for some salvage yard crawling and loaned out the keys to his ‘75 Pontiac Firebird. It did not end well.

Although mostly littered with derelict Fords and mosquito colonies, the yard had a few decent examples stored out of the elements including a Cobra clone Pinto. After an hour or two of sweating and crawling over tetanus collections in the yard, Rich needed some wind in his hair. What better way to get it than 70 miles an hour in a Firebird?

Answering the call of his borrowed mullet and sunglasses, Rich ripped a burnout that would’ve impressed the Bandit himself, taking the last good part of the engine’s bottom end along with it.

Kind people that they are, Rich wished the best on the repair bill and got back on the road to check out Kevin’s workplace as an aircraft mechanic before leaving Iowa.

Thanks to the nudge from DeBoss, the “Surfin Bird” ‘75 Firebird is well on its way to a killer engine and 4-speed swap from a real deal muscle car.

Keep it locked here on Roadkill Customs for all the updates, parts lists, and backyard wrenching on the car. This is a must-see for fans of cheap speed and Budget Bandit cars…
