- First Year Mercury Pickup Truck
- Very Collectable
This specimen is a solid barn find truck in beautiful, all original condition. It is a very good candidate for a full restoration.
The truck is located in Sweet Grass, Montana, and is being offered for sale with a clear title.
Auction Update: SOLD 11/11/2018 for $9,200.00
The truck is virtually complete and is from the first year of production of the Mercury Pickup line, and looks to be a rock solid candidate for a restoration project.
It has a very solid body for an un-restored truck of this era. The floorboards are in excellent condition. The fenders are completely rust free, as are the running boards.
The only rust issues that I have found are the passengers cab corner and typical minor rusting on the bed sides — All easily repaired. It has very nice patina and all original paint. There is no bondo in this truck, it is exactly as Ford built it (as a Mercury, for the Canadian market).
Most impressive is the lack of dents, I don’t believe this truck did much work or it was very well taken care of as all fenders are in incredible condition. The drivers door has a small dent but that is it.
It only has 64,860 original miles on it. The Mercury tailgate does not have a hole cut for a grain shoot which is very unusual on a One Ton pickup of this era. These tailgates are incredibly rare and seldom found in this condition.
Also very unusually and very fortunately a dump bed set up has not been fitted to this truck so the bed sits at the correct factory height which is rarely seen on One Ton pickups of this era.
All Mercury specific emblems are present and in good shape as is the Mercury specific grille. Very importantly all four of the very rare Mercury hubcaps are present, as well as a fifth on the spare.
Overall this is a very good all original and solid example of a One Ton 46 Mercury pickup.
The interior is complete, with the exception of the glove box door. The Mercury script on the dashboard is present and the interior is in good condition for its age.
From Seller: I will very likely be able to source a glove box door in the correct color for the buyer before the truck is collected.
Mechanically this truck is complete with its original 239ci Flathead V8 which is backed by a 4-speed manual transmission. It hasn’t ran in many years but nothing is missing. All tires hold air. It rolls and steers freely.
