Rat Stab was a winter project of Blake Tourville, welder/fabricator at Sparks Speed Shop in Bethalto, Illinois.
The project was based on a junk 1966 Volkswagen Beetle that he’d had sitting around for years.
The build and all of the fabrication was done in-house after work hours and on weekends. The 1600 cc engine was an eBay Motors find in Iowa. The transmission, also a ’69, and also an eBay Motors find came from Missouri.
The all-steel chassis is stretched a full 36 inches and is coated with bed liner. The body is fabricated from light gauge aluminum, formed, and painted.
The seats are from a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix and the dash switches were harvested from a police cruiser. LED headlights and tail lights were wired in and Blake keeps himself safe with self-adjusting aircraft seat belts.
