Lil’ Swampy 7/8th Scale Handmade Window Swamp Cooler
Christopher Bissett of Woolwich, Maine has been making and selling swamp coolers for about 5 years. He’s made dozens in several versions, and he’s shipped them all over the world.
Lil’ Swampy is a 7/8ths scale reproduction of old-style window swamp coolers for cars and trucks. This is a new, less expensive version of his original version and features Free Shipping, or build one yourself.
Chris has steadily developed a sort of “open source” swamp cooler using the best of his own designs and from feedback from the community and users. He’s tested each style first dry and then wet to prove its functionality. Chris’s tests in poor conditions make it clear that cool air CAN be achieved with regular ambient temperature water, no ice!
This is the third style of the swamp cooler that Chris has crafted, and is also the first cooler with a hand-made main body and no moving internal parts. There is a filter in a tray that can be wet for a decrease in the temperature of the air entering the vehicle through the cooler.
The Lil’ Swampy swamp cooler comes in plain steel and is ready to paint or finish to match your ride. This version is 17″ wide at the vent.
Chris has added the option of an additional bracket set that can secure the cooler to the top of the door/window opening. Note: This adds to the overall width by 1″.
Swamp Cooler Bracket Set
Chris’s Ecophage Swamp Cooler Bracket Set is modeled to be similar to brackets provided with vintage car swamp coolers like Thermador, Sears, Car Cooler, and Kool-Air.
It comes with carriage bolts and a set of hard tight curve brackets like the ones that originally came in these kits. The kit also includes an unbent set of softer steel brackets that can be bent and trimmed to fit a door edge profile that’s more square.
This allows you to fold the bracket all the way 180° into the gap between the weatherstripping and the door securing the cooler as a second option.
