Vice Grip Garage Gave Away a Free Race Car

I’ll be dipped! A few weeks back, Derek from Vice Grip Garage gave away a Chevy Monza race car to a lucky fan. The winner, Drew, is a good friend from Texas and kindly offered to bring us along! Before we sent him and his cherry driving machine 1,200 miles home, of course, we had to try and revive it…

Okay, so it isn’t exactly World Rally Championship ready, but as the saying goes, anything is a race car if you’re mean enough to it.

In order to make some space and surprise a lucky fan, Derek from Vice Grip Garage gave away a “mint” Monza race car that had previously been abandoned and suspected to be blown up. One lucky fan from Texas won it and made the trip all the way from Houston to Minneapolis to collect his new ride.

Other than the dents, floor patches, and enough blow-by to raise the Titanic, Derek’s giveaway car was about as cherry as any Monza off the assembly line. Complete with a cage, boat gas tank, mail truck tires, and wiring that functions most of the time, it’s pretty much race ready.

As Derek put it, “it’s got more colors than a Joan Jett album,” but a free race car is still a FREE race car to any car junkie like the lucky winner Drew.

Be on the lookout for your favorite VGG Race Car at the next 24 Hours of Lemons, Gambler 500, or local rally event — you just might spot this racing machine and its new owner’s mullet flapping in the breeze on their way to first place. You may also spot it smoking in the pits. We figure the odds are pretty even, but entertaining either way.
