3 Automotive Myths That Cost Vehicle Performance

Is bigger really always better when it comes to vehicle performance?

And what about exhaust system backpressure — is it really necessary for optimum performance?

In this video, the Summit Racing tech experts talk facts and bust myths that can be costing your engine setup and vehicle power and performance.

Myth 1:

There’s a tendency among some enthusiasts to go big when it comes to our components — carburetor, cylinder heads, and exhaust pieces.

It’s first important to understand how CFM can impact your engine build.

The same goes for choosing cam duration and lift, as well as knowing which intake port size is right for you.

Summit Racing tech experts share insights on those topics and apply them to the myth that bigger airflow equals bigger performance.

Myth 2:

Cam manufacturers often supply two camshaft duration specs — duration at .050″ lift and advertised duration.

Are both really necessary? And if not, which is the most important to consider?

Myth 3:

Finally, what is exhaust backpressure and why is it important… or is it actually not a good thing at all?

They’ve heard both sides of the debate and they’ll provide their two cents in the video. This includes how back pressure is effected by exhaust size and how to match correct exhaust pipe size to your engine’s intended power and purpose.

And of course, no discussion of backpressure would be complete without a word about exhaust scavenging vs. backpressure.

One is good; the other not so much. Watch the video to learn more…
