1955 Pontiac Star Chief Gets A New Lease On Life After Family Rebuild

From sitting in a field to now commanding attention on the roads and at car shows, this 1955 Pontiac Star Chief has undergone a serious transformation. Shawn, of Cleveland, Tennessee, bought the car from a friend for $500 and decided to work on it with his wife and son.

Given the condition of the original car, Shawn had to find a suitable replacement for the chassis and opted for a 2000 Chevrolet S10 and a 5.3L LS engine from a junkyard truck which is bolted to an A4LD Transmission.

He kept the original dashboard and steering wheel for the car’s interior, and his wife did all of the lettering and paintwork.

The build cost $5,000 in total.

  • Chevrolet 5.3L LS Engine
  • A4LD Automatic Transmission
  • Suspension: QA1 Coliovers
  • 33″ X 12″ Tires

Shawn told Ridiculous Rides: “It’s a lot of fun to drive. We’ve driven it all over the country. The attention it gets is amazing. You feel like you’re back in the ‘50s when you’re cruising around.”
