1950 Chevrolet Styleline Gets Arizona Window Delete

In Arizona, they don’t need no stinkin’ windows…

At 300+ sunny days a year, windows are usually down in older and classic rides without air-conditioning.

In the life with its current owner, this 1950 Chevrolet Styleline never saw its windows closed, even though they were re-tracked and converted to electric.

But the window channel made the top of the door uncomfortable to the underside of your arm — this discomfort will not stand.

Additionally, and what pushed this onto the “Go” list, was a funky pair of quarter windows that were “created” during the roof chop done by the previous owner. The solution, an Arizona Window Delete.

To start, the door was gutted and all window-related bits were eliminated. A strip of 1/8″ x 1/2″ bar stock was set in place to establish an edge for a custom door panel across the full width of the door.

This line is continued inside the once rear quarter window as well. The 20 gauge sheet was then bent in a soft 90 to close the window gap in the top of the door.

A couple of relief cuts to help mold to the door and the second piece is tacked into place.

All seams will be fully stitch welded with care exercised to minimize heat warping. Short stitches with plenty of cooling time between…

Once the seams were welded and cleaned up with a flapper wheel, a light coat of filler was applied and the door top was blocked into shape.

The car is headed next to a paint shop friend of the owner so we are only taking this to primer.
