“My first car was a 1968 Volkswagen Type 3 Fastback purchased from the neighborhood parking lot for a paltry $300 in 1982. I loved that car, and I loved its shape. I moved on to a Karmann Ghia but always lusted for a 911 — the lines of those cars are so sexy. Then I happened upon this curvacious beast on Facebook:”

So we did a little homework, we wanted to be sure this wasn’t another photoshop. It’s not. It’s Hotaka Saito’s 913 ~ A 1968 Porsche Mashed Up with a Volkswagen Type 3 Fastback.
We found this via Rothfink Industries…
The car belongs to one Hotaka Saito aka Red Hot Drive, who’s owned his 913 since 2003 and completed the custom hand-built classic car project in 2008.
The body mods were done over the course of five years by ZIP Speed.
It runs a 1582cc engine, which essentially the same as a 1968 model Porsche 912 with a Karmann made body.
Hotaka’s custom-built classic car ride has far too many modifications to list, so just try and visualize a stock 911 or 912 and then take look at Red Hot Drive’s creation in contrast; there’s something new to see at from every angle.
The only original features remaining from the 912 are the roof, the glass, the interior, plus the complete running gear and floor pan. Almost the entire outer body skin has been custom-made.
And that’s not all; a Porsche engine is normally cooled via a grille in the rear trunk lid, but the Type3 Fastback has louvers on the rear fenders. So to get the look right meant that ducts had to be configured to direct enough air at the engine to prevent it running hot.
