The F-Bomb Camaro was originally built by Hot Rod magazine and based on a 1973 F-body, which was recreated as Vin Diesel’s ride for Fast & Furious 4.
The “F-bomb” belongs to David Freiburger, Cheif Editor of Hotrod Magazine. This is David’s personal car which was built completely at Nelson Supercars to show what can be done with a high tech twin turbo Nelson Racing Engine… and a car designed around it.
The motor is a 406 twin-turbo that makes 1540 hp and 1527 lbs of torque.
The F-Bomb was debuted at the 2006 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Here’s how the project got started…
From NRE (Nelson Racing Engines) TV ~ A 1973 Camaro which we’ve caged, mini-tubbed, completely stripped to bare metal and powder coated the entire car. The motor is a 406 twin-turbo making 1540 hp and 1527 lbs of torque.
We are going to prove to everyone you can “have your cake and eat it too.”
We are going to drive the car 300 miles a day, stopping at a race track every day, for 5 days. 1,500 miles and 5 races in 5 days, with no support vehicle. Sounds pretty crazy? Did we mention we are planning on running in 8 second quarter miles?
Our goal is to illustrate that you can own a car that is smooth running, mellow-idling, easy-driving, pump-gas cruiser – and still make 1500hp, 8 second passes…
We call it the “F-bomb” because when it arrived, it looked like a Scud hit it…
It was only in a few moments of Roadkill—in episode 15 with the Jeep Rod and in the intro of episode 34—yet remains one of the most asked about cars among Roadkill fans.
In this Roadkill Extra, Freiburger shows you what’s happening with this iconic car…
