Team Broncosaurus 2020 is one of just 15 teams of experienced custom vehicle builders that have nine months to build a vehicle from the ground up and then take it on the ultimate test; a 1,400-mile cross-country drive to the world’s largest aftermarket automotive show, The SEMA Show, where they’ll represent their sponsors.
The Team Broncosaurus 2020 build was designed by Michael Turk and the fabrication is headed up by one Roy Edwards, who’s backed up by Doug Beers — their build has been dubbed appropriately Broncosaurus Rex.
Take a walk around Team Broncosaurus 2020 World Headquarters with hot rod designer, Michael Turk and learn how this build came about…
The Bronco sheet-metal was acquired as a kit…
With the bulk of the sheet metal parts in-house, Roy built a frame table and started building the body. 10 full inches were cut out of the center, narrowing it up to match the models’ proportions.
While looking the parts over, they discovered that reversing the doors would be just as easy as putting them on right, so suicide-doors it is.
Roy’s working hard to put a roof over his head. To call it a “chop top” is an understatement… It’s been chopped, sliced, diced, and lovingly welding back into a newer, meaner, lower, swoopier lid than any Bronco has ever worn before.
The Governor of Illinois has ordered everyone to “Shelter in Place” as of 5 pm Saturday, the 21st of March. So Roy and company got done what could be done before shutting the shop down til further notice…
Roy’s been welding, and welding, and welding some more. When you dice a body up, you gotta stitch it back together. Slow going, but all so necessary. April also saw the tailgate and tonneau cover creation.
The frame metal arrived at last, and El Roy wasted no time boxing things together!
Roy Custom fabricated an 18 gallon fuel tank and an air tank.
The International RATical Rod Build Off Drive Off was organized by Bryan Dagel and includes some of the most creative and astounding builders today in the car world.
