Low Budget Builds

Tearing Down a 461ci Pontiac Engine

While most of the world is on lockdown, it’s the perfect time to tear into a project car.

Mad Scientist Garage is doing exactly that, resurrecting the 1975 “Surfin Bird” Firebird after Deboss Garage gave it a little too much sauce.

Any proper Trans Am tribute needs a burly engine. Lightning struck twice on this $1,000 Firebird build, and just a few days after the 350 started ticking a mystery 455 went up for sale locally.

Even better — it’s a .030″ over-bored block with some trick pistons in it!

Although still a good deal, not all is well with this long block. See what was hiding inside the cheapest 461ci Pontiac in the Midwest…
