1967 Ford Galaxie 500 “R” Code 427 Cobra RestoMod

We originally were going to build a twin turbo 302 for this one owner New Mexico car. But over time we changed our mind and created an “R” code clone with some bolt on suspension and brake improvements.

Ford’s legendary FE series engine was available as an option in this car back in 1967, in 390, 428 and 427 cubic inches. The hottest was the 427 Cobra V8, which designated it “R” code based on the letter “R” in it’s vehicle identification number.

Incidentally, the stock chassis on this car is legendary, if not as well known as the 427 Cobra V8. When this chassis was introduced in the 1965 full-size Fords it dominated NASCAR Stock Car Racing.

Its fully boxed construction along with strategically based torque boxes, 3-link rear suspension with Panhard bar later became the basis for Banjo Matthew’s chassis which were used for years in NASCAR under all brands of cars.
