Jessi Combs May Still Get ‘Fastest Woman’ Guinness World Record

The results of Jessi Combs’ efforts in her North American Eagle Jet-Car may have been enough to posthumously crown her officially as the fastest woman in the world.

UPDATE 6/25/2020: It’s Official: 522.783 MPH ~ Jessi combs has been awarded the “fastest land speed record (female) by the Guinness World Records

The title is currently held by Kitty O’Neil, who set the record in the Alvord Desert in 1976 at the speed of 512.710 mph while piloting a rocket-powered car fueled by hydrogen peroxide.

Jessi’s two-way average – in the same Oregon desert – was 531.889 mph.

That’s huge – in the realm of land speed racing where records are often broken by fractions of a mile per hour – breaking a long-standing record by that amount is a remarkable accomplishment.

Combs died while making her third run of the day in the land speed racer on August 27, 2019.

An exhibit of Combs’ life and career was recently held at the Petersen Automotive Museum, where it was announced that the results of Jessi’s runs have been submitted to Guinness World Records for consideration to unseat O’Neil for the fastest female land speed record.
