1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass Field Find Revival

Putting a ’71 Cutlass on the road after sitting in a field for more than 35 years isn’t exactly a recipe for success, but common sense has never been a driving force for most hot rodders. Just ask their wives.

YouTube muscle car fanatics Jed from Scott’s Speed Shop and Jon from Mad Scientist Garage thought it would be a neat idea to put an Oldsmobile with one foot in the grave back on the street in just a couple days with secondhand parts and dumb luck.

Whether it worked out or not is entirely dependent upon your definition of success and “drivability”…

Other than being a mouse motel in a former life and lacking any sort of transmission, driveshaft, or signs of compression, the Olds is a pretty solid start for a muscle car project.

Armed with a Suburban full of used parts and a little determination, it came down to fighting a few decades of gremlins and neglect to get it back on the road…

Was the build a success? In a sense, big time. Good times were had, a forgotten muscle car left running after sitting neglected since the ’80s, and in spite of all the rust and mouse turds, a couple of guys became good friends.

At the end of the day, trying to revive a battered muscle car like this with friends and family is what the gasoline hobby is all about.
