1960s Street-Legal Ford Factory Race Cars

We journey back to the automotive world of the 1960s to take a closer look at what the Ford Motor Company was offering if someone wanted to buy an incredibly special, factory-built car that was ready to take to a drag strip or a stock car track to race — but was also completely street legal.

Did Ford actually make street-legal race cars that the public could buy?

Yes, they did, but with a caveat; The cars were mostly limited in production numbers and were considered experimental or homologation compliant cars.

What is a homologation car?

Simply put, homologation cars were cars that the manufacturer was required to build in limited quantities and sell to the public that represented the version of the car that would compete in a racing event or series.
